About San Francisco Recreation and Park:

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department is dedicated to delivering enriching recreational activities, maintaining the city's beautiful parks, and preserving the environment for the diverse community it serves. The department oversees more than 220 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces, including two located outside the city limits. This extensive system comprises 25 recreation centers, nine swimming pools, five golf courses, along with numerous sports facilities such as tennis courts and soccer fields. About the Author:

Chris Pollock has authored three notable publications related to Golden Gate Park: "San Francisco's Golden Gate Park: A Thousand and Seventeen Acres of Stories" (Graphic Arts/Westwinds, 2001), which chronicles the park's diverse features; "Golden Gate Park: San Francisco's Urban Oasis" (Arcadia, 2003), showcasing historic postcard illustrations; and "Reel San Francisco Stories: An Annotated Filmography of the Bay Area" (Castor & Pollux P., 2013), which serves as a definitive reference for films made in or about the Bay Area. As the official park historian, he frequently speaks at events and conducts tours for both local and visiting audiences. His expertise has been showcased on television and radio programs, including a recent feature on KPIX TV related to the 200-year anniversary of Fort McHenry’s shelling. A former interior architect who shifted his focus to historic preservation and research, Chris is originally from Connecticut and currently resides in San Francisco.
